i played resistance 3

it sucked. sort of. the ending definitely did. i feel like i was somewhat oversold on how good it was going to be compared to the other two games, definitely on the narrative side of things. "it has a great story, the protagonist is so much better than nathan hale". it feels to me that a lot of gamers have very little exposure to genuinely good writing. the only difference between nathan and joseph is.. joseph has a reason for involving himself in the chimerian war... thing is... a motivation for your characters... is bare minimum.

he doesn't talk during gameplay, and characters rarely speak to him beyond bland, almost pointless exposition. i am willing to forgive nathan being mute, i have less forgiveness for joseph. 2006 and 2011 are worlds apart, and a totally mute (during gameplay) protagonist in a story-driven game released during 2011 feels a bit antiquated, even if it still wasn't entirely the norm in fps games. then again... insomniac have never been ones for innovation really, have they?

yeah sure, the weapon wheel is back from resistance fall of man, but in fom, you would often be forced to cycle through all of your weapons. you can't just.. use the same two or three guns and mindlessly coast by. ammo runs dry, and can remain so for long stretches. you might be forced into sections where you have to use snipers or some of the many secondary fires that each weapon has. it feels more.. considered. i came back to resistance 3 after pausing it to play deltarune chapter 5, it never really works to put down and pick up games, especially when the game you just finished is obviously much better. anyway, i coasted through the last few levels mindlessly cycling the same three or four guns without any issues.

fall of man is worth playing if you want to experience a piece of playstation history. beyond the outrageous controls, it holds up surprisingly well, and there is an undeniable passion at its heart that remains intact almost twenty years later. sadly, i do not predict the sands of time showing this franchise any mercy.
